IdeasAI Alternatives: Startup Ideas From People, Data and Real Businesses

IdeasAI shows startup ideas that, by its own description, are generated by AI without human involvement. If you want ideas from people instead, use Post your build ideas or an idea subreddit. For researched SaaS ideas try SaaS Idea Finder. For proof, use Starter Story or Can I Vibecode It. For growth data, use Exploding Topics. Choose by where the idea comes from.

What is IdeasAI, and why would you want something else?

IdeasAI is a free-to-browse site where you swipe through startup ideas. Its homepage says the ideas are generated by AI without human involvement and shaped by visitors who like or dislike them. You swipe, each idea has a “Build it” button, and there is a weekly email. Its page also states that many ideas might not be perfect, which is an honest warning.

Its strengths are speed and zero effort. The reasons to look elsewhere are about origin. A model has never waited in a queue, filed an expense report or tried to book a plumber. It can produce a plausible product, and plausible is not the same as needed. If you want ideas that come from a person with a problem, from a scan of real complaints, or from a business that exists, the alternatives below sit at different points on that scale.

The page does not name who runs it, so we say nothing about the operator. Its funding, as stated on the page, is advertising: it invites advertisers on the page and in the weekly email.

How do you judge an AI-generated idea before spending time on it?

Whichever source you use, an AI-written idea needs a grounding step. Five questions will cut most of a list quickly.

  1. Can you name the person? If the customer is “small businesses” or “creators”, stop. Find one real person who fits, such as someone you know or someone who posted a complaint, and ask them.
  2. What do they do today? A real problem has a workaround: a spreadsheet, a group chat, a paid tool. No workaround usually means no problem.
  3. Who already sells this? A search takes five minutes. Many competitors is a good sign if you can name what each does badly; none can mean nobody wants it.
  4. Can you build the first version alone in two weeks? If not, cut it in half and ask again.
  5. Would anyone pay before it exists? Ask five people for a yes to something concrete: a call, a deposit, a signed waitlist.
Prompt to stress-test an idea with any AI chat tool
Here is a startup idea: [paste idea].
Act as a skeptical buyer, not a cheerleader.
1. Name three specific kinds of person who might have this problem, and the situation where it hurts most.
2. List what each does today instead.
3. Give the three strongest reasons they would not switch.
4. Tell me what you could not judge without real conversations, and what I should ask.
Do not suggest features. Do not estimate market size.

The last line matters. A model will happily invent a market size; leave it out. The guide to how to validate an app idea covers the conversations that replace it.

Which are the best IdeasAI alternatives?

This site publishes this page and lists itself first, so treat the ranking as having a bias. It is first because its ideas are written by people and each carries a copyable build prompt; the entry says what that does not give you. The other five are described only with what each states about itself, read on 28 October 2026.

01 Post your build ideas

A free public board of ideas written by people who will not build them, each with a generated build prompt.

Source of ideas
People posting ideas they will not build themselves
Cost
Free; funded by optional sponsor placements
Account needed
No account, no email
Why it is first here
Human-written ideas with a prompt per idea, and no sign-up between you and the build

Where IdeasAI is a stream, this is a board: you can filter by category, like or dislike, see how often a prompt was copied and follow a builder’s link under “Already built this?”. Open an idea and the prompt holds the whole description, with buttons for Claude Code, Codex and Cursor, and you can paste it into Lovable or another builder.

Human-written is not the same as good. Ideas are unverified, can be vague or poorly spelled, and carry no demand data; the site says an idea on the board does not prove demand. Posts are permanent, build links are self-reported, and the board is small. If you want machine-made ideas on this site, the free AI app idea generator does that.

02 Reddit idea subreddits

Communities such as r/SomebodyMakeThis, r/AppIdeas and r/Startup_Ideas, where members post ideas and others reply.

Who it suits
Someone who wants human replies to an idea
Account needed
A Reddit account to post; check each subreddit’s rules
Build prompt
None seen; posts are free text

The counterweight to AI ideas is people arguing about them in public. Reddit’s own pages would not load for our check, so we make no claims about sizes or rules. See r/SomebodyMakeThis alternatives for how the three compare.

Expect to turn posts into a brief yourself, since a subreddit is a feed of text rather than a structured board.

03 SaaS Idea Finder

An AI-assisted subscription tool that says its SaaS ideas start from scanned forum and community complaints.

Who it suits
A reader who wants AI-assisted ideas grounded in scanned complaints
Cost
A limited free tier plus paid plans; see its pricing page
Operator
Sarver Enterprises, LLC, per its terms

It is also AI-assisted, so it is not an escape from machine-written ideas. The difference it claims is the input: a scan of forums and datasets rather than a model free-associating. That claim is the site’s own and we did not measure it.

Try the free tier and apply the five questions above to what it gives you. See SaaS Idea Finder alternatives.

04 Starter Story

Founder interviews on starting and growing a business, with a database of projects that report revenue.

Who it suits
Someone who wants real examples more than a list of ideas
Cost
Database free per its homepage; an email address is required
Angle
Built businesses, not unbuilt ideas

The furthest point from a generated idea: a person describing what they built and how they found customers. It will show you what a small product that pays looks like, which makes it easier to judge any idea you meet elsewhere.

It shows successes selected for the database, so read it as a source of patterns. See Starter Story alternatives.

05 Can I Vibecode It

An open-source site that asks, for each paid app, whether AI can build a replacement today.

Who it suits
A builder looking for products people already pay for
Cost
Free; funded by sponsor slots
Angle
Starts from existing paid software, not from new ideas

Instead of inventing a product, it points at ones that exist and asks whether you could replace them. That removes the “does anyone want this” question for the target, though not the “can you win customers” one.

Its verdicts and figures are its own; read the reasoning on each. See Can I Vibecode It alternatives.

06 Exploding Topics

A trend database for seeing which topics and products are gaining attention.

Who it suits
A builder with a shortlist who wants to compare topic growth
Cost
Paid monthly plans with a 7-day free trial; free weekly newsletter
What it is not
An idea source; you bring the idea

It gives you something an idea generator cannot: a measure outside the idea. If IdeasAI shows you ten ideas, checking which topic is rising is a way to rank them.

Rising attention does not prove people will pay. Treat the trend as one input and keep the customer conversations.

Read “None seen” as: not found on the pages we read. “Not checked” means we did not look at all.

How did we compare these, and what is the bias?

This site is the publisher of this page and listed itself first. We limited that by reading each product’s own pages on 28 October 2026, using only what they state, quoting no prices for other products and saying where we could not read a page. We list limitations only when the product documents them or when they follow from what it is. We did not test every feature, and the order after the first entry is by closeness to IdeasAI’s job, not by quality.

Which should you use?

  • You want human-written ideas and a prompt to start building: the board.
  • You want to argue about an idea in public: a subreddit.
  • You want researched SaaS ideas: SaaS Idea Finder, starting on the free tier.
  • You want to know what kind of business pays: Starter Story or Can I Vibecode It.
  • You want to rank a shortlist: Exploding Topics.
  • You just want to react to a lot of ideas: stay on IdeasAI, then apply the five questions above to the ones you liked.

Combining two sources beats relying on one. Read AI app ideas for categories where an AI feature is the product, and how to find a startup idea for a method that does not depend on any list.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good alternative to IdeasAI?

It depends on what you want instead of AI-generated ideas. For human-written ideas with a build prompt, use Post your build ideas. For discussion, use an idea subreddit. For researched SaaS ideas, use SaaS Idea Finder. For examples of working businesses, use Starter Story. All of these describe different sources, not better versions of the same one.

Are IdeasAI ideas generated by a person or by AI?

By its own description, they are generated by AI without human involvement, and visitors train the output by liking or disliking ideas. The site also says many ideas might not be perfect. Treat each as a prompt for your own research, and check it against a real person’s problem before you build.

Is there a free site with ideas written by real people?

Yes. Post your build ideas is a free board of ideas typed by individuals, with no account needed, and each idea has a generated build prompt. Reddit’s idea subreddits are another human-written source, though you post under a Reddit account. In both cases the ideas are unverified, so they need testing.

Can I generate ideas with AI but still check them?

Yes. Generate freely, then filter hard: name the person with the problem, find what they do today, search for existing products, and ask five people for a concrete yes. The AI app idea generator here produces ideas, and the validation planner turns one into a checklist of conversations to have.

Does a Build it button mean the idea is ready to build?

No. A button is a shortcut to a starting point, not a signal that the idea has demand or a clear scope. Before building, write the smallest version in two or three sentences and check whether it fits two weeks. The guide to scoping an MVP explains how to cut it down.

Post your build ideas publishes this comparison and lists itself first. Facts about other products were checked on their own websites on the date shown above; prices and features change, so confirm on their sites before you decide. About the publisher.
