You read it three times and still aren't sure. Point your phone at it and get one answer: yes, you can park here until 6pm. Or no, not today. Everyone who drives in a city has stood in front of that pole. The cost of getting it wrong is a ticket or a towed car, so the problem is frequent, painful and instantly understood — which is exactly what a mass-market app needs. The hard part is being right. Reading the text off a sign is the easy half. The rules underneath aren't on the sign at all: public holidays that suspend them, temporary event restrictions, what "except permit" means in that district.
