You see someone on the street, in a film, in a photo. Point your phone at what
they're wearing and get the item, or the closest thing that actually exists, with
a link.
People have been asking for this for a decade and the reason it keeps failing
isn't recognition — visual search has been decent for years. It's inventory.
Matching a jacket to a picture is easy; knowing that a specific shop has it in a
specific size right now means being wired into thousands of retailers who have
no interest in being wired into you.
So the honest version probably doesn't promise the exact item. It says "this is
a cropped olive utility jacket, here are four that look like it, two are in
stock". Close enough is genuinely useful. Pretending to be exact and being wrong
is what kills trust the first time.
Second problem, and it's the one nobody mentions: photographing strangers.
Pointing a camera at someone's outfit in public is uncomfortable at best and
illegal in some places. The product needs to work well from a screenshot, a
saved photo, a film still — and probably shouldn't encourage the street version
at all.
Third: fast fashion pays affiliate commission, good brands often don't. If the
money comes from affiliate links, the results drift toward whoever pays most,
and the product quietly becomes an ad. That has to be decided at the start, not
patched later.
